Every aspiring nerd needs a blog and the perfect companion to a blog is a nice Facebook fan page. You can use them to keep your readers updated with your latest content, hold contests, and reach an audience inaccessible with a blog alone. However, creating a fan page can be extremely confusing.
Go ahead and login to Facebook. There is a little down arrow in the top right corner of the screen. Clicking that arrow will bring down a menu with the option to create a page. Here is a nice picture that will help you locate it.
Clicking “Create a Page” will bring up a page the offers 6 categories to choose from that will define your Facebook page. If you are creating a blog I would recommend selecting “Brand or Product” and then “Website”. Fill in any information that is requested.
Now you need to provide Facebook with some basic information about your page. They will want to have a description of your page, the address to your website, a vanity URL to your newly created Facebook page, and whether you are or are not a real brand or product. I would select “No” for a blog because you are not a physical entity.
You can relax now. It’s time for some fun. Now is the time to upload that sharp new logo you created. Page profile pictures are square and display at 160×160 pixels on your page. The photo you upload must be at least 180×180 pixels. I recommend uploading a square image. Rectangular images will be cropped to fit a square.
Go Forth and Conquer
Congratulations! You have completed the required steps to create a Facebook page. Step 3 wants you to add a bookmark to the menu on the left. Go ahead and do this if you want quick access to your page. Step 4 wants you to invite friends to your page. At this point you have an empty page and I don’t recommend sending potential readers to an empty page.
What did all of that hard work get you? A public profile for your blog where you can share new content, hold a giveaway, or even answer questions by curios fans. Check out poosh.co’s Facebook fan page and like it to keep up to date.
