The last thing you thought you would catch these leading ladies doing is sitting down on the couch with a bag of potato chips and playing some video games. But the times, they are a-changin’. Who doesn’t like to de-stress every now and then with a light video game session?
Keep reading to see if your secret Hollywood crush is on this list of celebrity girls you didn’t know were gamers.
1. Gemma Atkinson
This UK heartthrob first showed off her gamer chops when she landed the role of Lt. Eva McKenna in the popular real-time strategy game, Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 (2008). EA loved Atkinson so much that they gave her the part in Command & Conquer Red Alert 3: Uprising (2009).
Gemma’s all-time favorite video games are from the old-school Tomb Raider series on the PlayStation. She should have been casted as Lara Croft in the movie series and then we wouldn’t have had to listen to Angelina Jolie’s horrible try at a British accent.
2. Felicia Day
The goddess of geek culture created a successful web series The Guild that peeks into the world of online role-playing games. If I have peaked your interest, you can find the entire 6 seasons of The Guild on Netflix, Hulu, iTunes or DVD.
When asked, Felicia said her favorite games were Mass Effect 2 and the Ultima games. She enjoys these games because they allow her to insert her likeness into them.
3. Cameron Diaz
Cameron Diaz is a professed former addict of the massive-multiplayer online role playing game, World of Warcraft. She’s no longer an addict but she has been know to login and play every so often. Good luck at figuring out her handle. She keeps it strictly private.
4. Mila Kunis
Ashton Kutcher’s fiancée, Mila Kunis, waves her nerd card high. Kunis admittedly played so much World of Warcraft that she quit cold turkey so she could spend her time enjoying reality.
Mila said in an interview with Zimbio that she likes the game: “with the Nazi zombies, that, to me, is really fun. You finish ‘Call of Duty‘ first person, okay? You unlock this little game and your whole purpose is just to kill these Nazi zombies. You have to board up the windows. And I’m not necessarily good at it. It’s just fun.” The two are expecting a child soon. Here’s to wishing her Nazi zombie slaying skills get handed down the family tree.
5. Zooey Deschanel
Zooey Deschanel once confessed that she obsessively played Nintendo’s beloved adventure series, Zelda. “I had to, as sort of a show of pure willpower, give away my Super Nintendo machine because I was so obsessed with Zelda.”
Should I be offended that she called it her “Super Nintendo machine” instead of her SNES or should I just call her adorkable?
6. Janina Gavankar
The True Blood star likes a good joystick in her hand when she’s not being filmed. And she knows how to press all of the right buttons. Her favorite video game series has been Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed. If she’s not playing Assassin’s Creed, she’s most likely playing Portal or Dr. Mario.
Because of her increased popularity, she’s “had zero time to play video games as of late, so I really miss them. I’m so behind that it’s embarrassing, especially for someone who calls herself a “gamer.””
7. Olivia Munn
Munn is one of the best looking slave Leia’s to grace the floors of Comic-Con. And when the former Attack of the Show host isn’t making nerdy boys heads turn, she likes to play some games.
Olivia once said that her ideal day includes “a case of Pabst Blue Ribbon and playing some Guitar Hero until three in the morning.” Sounds like a great day to me!
8. Jessica Alba
This girl holds a special place in my heart because we’re close to the same age. We grew up playing Super Mario Bros. and Pac-Man. It was a great time to be a kid.
When the Wii came out she picked one up for fun and exercise. Her favorite games on the Wii are Wii Fit and Wii Sports.
9. Rosario Dawson
Rosario Dawson created her own comic called Occult Crimes Taskforce and she knows how to speak perfect Klingon. There is no questions she’s a nerd through and through.
What’s even more impressive is her Gamer’s Choice “Breakthrough Performance” Award at the 2006 Spike TV VGAs for her vocal contributions in Marc Ecko’s Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure.
Her favorite game series is Fallout.
10. Megan Fox
She’s wearing a Star Wars t-shirt for crying out loud. Need another justification? Chances are if you played Halo for the X-Box online, you most likely played with or against this beauty without knowing it. The actress said in an interview with Collider that, “I have a complete addiction to that game. It is sick. I play online mostly and [other gamers] have no idea. They make fun of my gamer tag, too, because it is funny.”
Her other games of choice come from the Mortal Kombat series. She says “I have that down and I don’t cheat. That game just works well with my brain. The way my brain fires signals works well with how that game works. And I’m just really good.”
11. Adrianne Curry
Adrianne Curry, rocketed into stardom when she won the first season of America’s Next Top Model. She’s may be a supermodel, but she’s a hardcore gamer as well.
When asked by L.A. Weekly how she developed her love of gaming, she said “Always had it. My parents never allowed my brother and I to get a gaming console, so we had to learn how to download computer games onto PCs and hide them. I grew up playing Myst, 7th Guest, Duke Nukem, Quake, Wolfenstein, King’s Quest, DOOM, etc. When I hit my teens, my friends and I would hang out in garages, underage drinking and playing video games. Currently I play a lot of World of Warcraft. I am the Guild Master of “Explicit” on the “Nazgrel Server” and yes, I realize I am speaking a language most people don’t understand!”
